May Palacpac: Painting a Life Well Lived

For MAYPAL, painting became a way of bringing together a lifetime of living.

Before she began exhibiting, she had already spent years immersed in the arts – as a professional singer, writer, and lifelong observer of people and their stories.

Today, MAYPAL moves between the storytelling simplicity of modern naïve art and the instinctive energy of gestural abstraction. Her work is rich in texture, colour, and whimsy, often drawing from family, childhood, relationships, and ordinary moments.

Rooted in a deeply creative, faith-filled home shared with her musician and multimedia artist husband and their artistically inclined children, her practice is shaped by a life where music, movement, art, and imagination are part of everyday living.

At heart, MAYPAL is a storyteller. While she recognizes the importance of art that confronts struggle and difficult truths, she is equally drawn to work that celebrates faith, hope, wonder, and the simple joy of being alive.

As an artist, she continues to explore, guided by the desire to translate something true onto canvas and remind us that, despite its complexities, life is profoundly worth living.
